Bradley Cooper keys to success

ONCE HE WAS INSPIRED, HE TOOK INTUITIVE BOLD STEPS FORWARD: "When I was eight years old, I wanted to be a chef or an actor. I used to cook all the time. I worked in restaurants the first half of my life." Intuition is something Bradley Cooper has been following since a kid.  Bradley Cooper admitted that acting was not his initial choice because he really loved to cook, in fact, he claims to have had his buddies come over while in kindergarten, and he'd prepare food for them, taking anything in the fridge and turning it into a lasagna. But his real inspiration for the performing arts came when he saw David Lynch's 'Elephant Man' on T.V. as a kid and he immediately remembers that as the moment he wanted to become an actor. The film would interestingly be surrounding him for years to come, almost as if he attracted it into his life. In his college days, he realized it was a play and acted as the lead role for his graduate thesis at the Actor's Studio. He apparentley even traveled to London to research and really grasp the part. Later in his life, he would act in the Broadway show of the exact very same film that made him fall in love with acting. Bradley Cooper took bold sacrifices for his career to make ends meet by working random jobs including many restaurants and being a doorman for a hotel too. On his path to his dreams, he once had the luxury of witnessing an interview of one of his inspirations in Robert DeNiro who he would later work alongside with. "The best thing about him is how willing he is to share all of that knowledge and experience,".

KNOWLEDGE IS POWER, AND BRADLEY COOPER HAS CONTINUOUSLY KEPT LEARNING: "I loved the college experience of studying." Bradley Cooper is not just a pretty face, he's got the brains, intellect and hunger for continuous knowledge, and it's certainly served him. He graduated from school with honors where he worked at The Philadelphia Daily News as a side gig. Bradley Cooper often spent the weekends with a not-for-profit Arts Program that taught city students about acting. Next, he earned an English degree at Georgetown University where he was apart of the rowing team. He's always been keen on learning, and shockingly has even become fluent in French as he went to France for 6 months as an exchange student. He then turned his learning route to his ambitions for acting, where he enrolled at the Actor's Studio Drama School in New York for his master's degree program - he earned his MFA. During his years mastering his craft as a student, he did a commercial for a fast food company and was a guest on Sex and the City. Bradley Cooper became a host for Lonely Planet where he got to travel a ton; he kayaked with Orca's and did ice climbing in Peru. Learning has many forms, conventional schooling to active experience in the real world, and Bradley Cooper jumped on both forms.

COOPER IS EXTREMELY DISCIPLINED AND HAS BEEN VERY COMMITTED TO HIS FUTURE: Bradley Cooper had an early dispute with himself that was a wake-up call of a lifetime - it helped him immensely. He discussed the life altering moment "I was at a party and deliberately bashed my head on the concrete floor. Like, 'Hey, look how tough I am!' I did it again. I spent the night at St. Vincent's Hospital with a sock of ice, waiting for them to stitch me up...I don't drink or do drugs anymore. Being sober helps a great deal... I remember looking at my life, my apartment, my dogs [when I was still using], and I thought, 'What's happening?' I was so concerned what [people] thought of me, how I was coming across, how I would survive the day. I always felt like an outsider. I just lived in my head. I realized I wasn't going to live up to my potential, and that scared the hell out of me. I thought, 'Wow, I'm actually gonna ruin my life. I'm really gonna ruin it'." Bradley Cooper committed from then on to do pretty much whatever it takes. He even missed his own graduation commencement to film a movie. He has said that he used to send tapes to directors of himself doing anything from acting as a UFC fighter kicking garbage cans in tight shorts to auditioning for a role as Robert DeNiro's son where his mother played the part of Mr. DeNiro.  He did't get that part, and many directors often labelled him as a pretty-boy, but his resilience served it's course in the long scope of things. He claims "The fact that these guys are trying to adopt a positive attitude was really important to me. As Jack Nicholson always says, 'Try to incline yourself upwards as much as possible' because it is too easy in this world to incline yourself downwards." Today, he does it all, from comedy to Broadway, and for certain roles, he's gone on extreme diets and crazy strict training.

Bradley Cooper quotes

“This is what I believe to be true. You have to do everything you can. You have to work your hardest. And if you do, if you stay positive, then you have a shot at a silver lining.”

- Bradley Cooper (Silver Lining Playbook)
