Shockingly, Matt LeBlanc (actor Joey Tribbiani in the hit series Friends) had only $11 to his name before getting the gig that turned him into a millionaire. In fact, Matt states he never really had much money growing up.
"'Friends', when it came my way, was my fourth TV series - and the other three had failed. I had exactly $11 in my pocket the day I was hired. I had to go back and read for the part of Joey a total of six times. It was far from certain I would get the role." - Matt LeBlanc
Matt states, his mother was very encouraging on him following his dreams, however didn't like the move he had to make to move to New York to try and get into the Hollywood scene. He states his mom brought him up to "follow his heart" no matter what. regardless of the doubts she had. Matt stayed in dirty hotels, filled with prostitutes and washed-up actors but had his eye on the prize at all times.
"The one time she became scared was when I moved to New York, at just 17, in an effort to become an actor. I was living in a cheap hotel which was dank and nasty. Junkies and hookers were all over the place when she came to visit for the weekend. I remember the look on her face and she said, 'Oh, please come home. Give this up. You won't make it.'" - Matt LeBlanc
At its peak, the character of Joey Tribbiani raked in a massive $1 million per episode for Matt LeBlanc.
Sometime, on the outside it may seem like people "just got lucky," but you can't judge a book by its cover. Often it's a combination of perseverance, and following your heart regardless of what anyone else thinks, that gets you to your full potential.
