The Art Of Excellence

When it comes to history, time and time again, we learn that absolute precision, mastery and pure excellence is what endures and it ultimately leads to a high degree of success, in any field.

With art, it was the Picasso's, Hemingway's and Van Gogh's that are still relevant in today's society. Why? Because when they were alive, they continuously strived to create art that was shear stunning. Now their work is timeless in essence and will remain in the museum's forever.

"We need to internalize this idea of excellence. Not many folks spend a lot of time trying to be excellent." - Barack Obama

In terms of sports, do you care to watch an average athlete throw a ball around? Or would you be delighted to watch the ones who've mastered they're crafts to the tee, who may it look like they were born with some sort of special gifts from another galaxy. Let's be honest - it didn't come easy, nothing really does. It was passion and then a driving force for being the best at it.

When it comes to business. Do you prefer to buy mediocre products that get the job half way done or do you seek the best of the best, state of the art whatever-it-is that never fails to perform. Cars, technology or even a service, you want the most durable, most advanced get-the-job-done product that exists. And then you'll even boast about it to your peers.

Scratch the business plan, scratch the marketing plan, and go back to the drawing table of design. What do you love? Chase perfection in it and create a masterpiece. Build a remarkable product and be a remarkable person in the process. Create value and always aim for excellence.

"Excellence is not a skill. It is an attitude." - Ralph Marston

Think of the term viral, in terms of products or things you buy. It's never random, and it's almost always something that you yourself would love and love to share.

So whatever you do in your life, try and obtain a mentality and a way of life that revolves around being phenomenal. Mastery is a beautiful concept and everyone who has seen or felt it can appreciate it's grace and allure. Simply because it's a spectacle to witness someone who has attained near perfection through layers upon layers of grit, determination, practice and perseverance.

"The will to win, the desire to succeed, the urge to reach your full potential... these are the keys that will unlock the door to personal excellence." - Confucious

Leonardo Da Vinci was known for his absolute attention to detail which led to remarkable timeless paintings that we still admire to this very day.

Bill Gates created Microsoft and would never settle for less in his pursuit of being the biggest and best software company in the world. He was competitive as it gets, but more so, he was dictated by an inner frame that wanted excellence and perfection, every, single, time.

Michelangelo perfected the Sistine Chapel after 4 long years of persistence. And he would paint upside down, to top it all off. This became one of the most famous paintings of all time, thanks to the "art of excellence".

One of the greatest NFL football coaches of all time Vince Lombardi believed:

"Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence."

He was notorious in the locker room and in his personal life for being an advocate for this philosophy :

"The quality of a person's life is in direct proportion to their commitment to excellence, regardless of their chosen field of endeavor."

Famous hip hop icon, Jay-Z has admitted in several interviews that excellence is an art form. It's something that doesn't always last but its rather a mentality of trying to be on top, time and time again, and that requires a competitive mindset and a drive to only want to create the best. It's thinking about the end audience the way Jay-Z has done for decades. And it's easy to notice that Jay has always had an exquisite taste for a life of excellence.

Steve Jobs was so fixated on creating something so unique, simple and easy to use -  he was often looked at within his company as a mad man. This was because of his perfection to wanting to create only the best technology to ever be seen. He brought poetry to the digital world.

"Be a yardstick of quality. Some people aren't used to an environment where excellence is expected." - Steve Jobs

Why aim or settle for a life of mediocrity when it is certainly in our arsenal to achieve greatness. Many people fear that they will get caught up in a life that is never fulfilled and will escape living in the present moment. This is certainly possible, however, the art of excellence is much more about obtaining a "mentality" of expecting the best and embracing perfection. Let's get very clear about one thing, 100% perfection will never be achieved, plain and simple, but this is no excuse for not attempting to get as close as humanly possible to it to witness something out of this universe. After all, it's a divine experience if you can get on the path of living for quality, beauty, value, and magnificence by shifting your mind to striving for excellence.

"If you want to achieve excellence, you can get there today. As of this second, quit doing less than excellent work." - Thomas J Watson
