It wouldn’t be a huge surprise for us to hear that the charming Captain America has owned the top of the throne with his impressively lucrative acting career, thanks to his outstanding performance in Civil War, the highest-grossing film of the year that earned $1.15 billion at the global box office. Topping Forbes 2015 “Best Value” list, Chris Evans had been considered to be the best value-for-money actor in Hollywood.
With his stunning prince charming appearance in every girl’s dream and his amazing acting skills as a superhero, we can hardly find a flaw in the irresistible Chris Evans who just seems to have it all while living such a perfect life.
Nevertheless, revealed by the actor himself, despite looking hot and fierce while holding that giant shield, he was not as fearless as the Captain seemed to be and he had his own insecurities while constructing and reinventing his successful career.
Chris Evans Understood The Importance Of Overcoming His Fears Of Becoming Captain America:
In an exclusive interview, Chris Evans opened up about his struggle in playing one of the biggest superheroes on the big screen. Overwhelmed with panic and stress, he admitted that he initially turned down the producer a couple of times before finally making up his mind to become the Captain.
The handsome actor confessed, “I was scared. At first it was some nine-picture contract. And there are parts of me that have a little bit of social anxiety with this industry. Doing movies one at a time, if all of sudden you decide you don’t want to do them anymore you are afforded the opportunity to take a step back and recalibrate. When you have a giant contract, if all of a sudden you’re not responding well, too bad – you’ve got to suit up again. That was scary.”
Fortunately, Evans eventually managed to channel and overcome his fear and take up the “American” responsibility. He understood that he should never let fear control him in making decisions. He said, “I decided to make ‘Captain America’ because I realized I wasn’t doing the film because it terrified me. You can’t make decisions based on fear.”
Overwhelmed With The Extra Attention And Fame:
After shooting a couple of Marvel films, Chris Evans was supposed to leave his worries behind and simply enjoy his fame all credited to his hard work. Sadly, he couldn’t as the American actor met his old friend, anxiety, once again when he hit the red carpet.
He described the whole experience as “a little nerve-racking,”. “You’re in the SUV with your family, your people. And then you have to pull over in some weird parking lot and do the swap. There’s security and all these people. All of a sudden you’re out of your comfort zone. It’s strange.” Said Evans.
After the Red Carpet shock, in a Rolling Stone interview, Evan’s mother told the reporter that her son would prefer to keep his life private as she remembers his social anxiety. She recalled how she used to confront her anxious son “Sometimes I say, ‘Get out of there, honey. Get out of your head. Come out here with the rest of us. It’s really nice out here.’ But this is who he’s been since he was a little boy”.
What’s more, the actor explained in an interview that he would very much like to stay away from the paparazzi who tend to bring out the non-work-related gossips and rumors about him.
He said, “I’ve been dreading press since January. It’s nice to talk about the work with people who are interested—but I freak out when I hear stupid questions about stupid things, and you’ve gotta act like you give a [expletive].” He explained, “I can handle the craziness some of the time, maybe most of the time. But I know I can’t handle it all of the time.”
Captain America Wants to Tell us that He’s Only Human and It’s Okay to Be Afraid
Tired of being in the spotlight, Chris Evans believed that “my(his) happiness in this world – my(his) level of peace – is never going to be dictated by acting.” Reaffirmed to variety, the stunning movie star has planned to say goodbye to his acting career and retire upon the end of his Marvel contract.
Nonetheless, it doesn’t mean that Chris Evans is defeated by the monsters inside of his head as on the bright side, endings sometimes can lead to better beginnings. Chris Evans quit acting not out of fear, but out of courage to transform himself, saying “I’m reminded of who I am, who I was and who I’m supposed to be.”
Feeling the need to turn his career around from acting to directing, he left his performing days behind and started up his new journey by directing 1:30 Train, a drama he shot in 19 days in New York City starring himself and Alice Eve.
Chris Evans Hopes Others Can Persevere Past Their Self Doubts
Many view Chris Evans with those ever-sparkling eyes as the IT boy who screams “I love my life!” A super hero who has dated Jessica Biel and seems like (from the outside) as if he has no worries in life and is liked by basically everyone in the world.
Yet here he is, the perfect-looking actor, revealing that many parts of his life stink, and he was just nervous as a cat when all the success and fame started to come to him.
Even moving away from acting to directing, there is no doubt that taking up the role of “Captain America” has been an indispensable milestone in the career of Chris Evans. As difficult as the job could be, the actor finally overcome his fear and found it worth while to take bold chances.
He said, “When you do one movie at a time, if one goes crazy and becomes successful, your life changes. But you can step back and catch your breath.”, sending a message that it’s okay to be scared but it’s not okay to be scared away.
