Jimmy Valvano was the head coach of North Carolina State University, and won the NCAA Basketball Tournament with intense odds! Valvano was remembered for his high enthusiasm, walking up and down the court in shock and awe of winning looking for someone to hug, and eyes full of inspiration. Shortly after winning, Jimmy gave this touching, enthusiastic ESPY Awards speech about how to live a fulfilling life, which is to every day, laugh, think, and cry. He says if you take some time to laugh, have some time to think to yourself, and cry tears of joy everyday, that is one hell of a day, but if you do that over many days, that’s one hell of a life! Jimmy Valvano died of cancer 8 weeks after delivering this speech to the world.
“To me, there are three things we all should do every day. We should do this every day of our lives. Number one is laugh. You should laugh every day. Number two is think. You should spend some time in thought. And number three is, you should have your emotions moved to tears, could be happiness or joy. But think about it. If you laugh, you think, and you cry, that’s a full day. That’s a heck of a day. You do that seven days a week, you’re going to have something special.”
Jimmy’s optimistic view on being a cancer patient will forever be remembered!

“Cancer can take away all of my physical abilities. It cannot touch my mind, it cannot touch my heart, and it cannot touch my soul. And those three things are going to carry on forever. I thank you and God bless you all.”
