Known famously as the Queen of Rock n’ Roll, Stevie Nicks has made a huge impact on the music business as well as the fashion industry, and continues to be a motivational icon for women everywhere. Nicks’ work with Fleetwood Mac and her solo career has garnered her over 40 hits and sold 140 million records – making Fleetwood Mac one of the highest selling acts of all time. She has also won numerous Grammy awards and AMAs.
Born in Phoenix, Arizona, Stevie Nicks was introduced to the world of music from a young age. Her grandfather was a struggling country singer, and he taught her to sing duets by the time she was only four years old. Nicks younger years were spent moving around frequently due to her father’s occupation, so she spent most of her time alone listening to records, playing her Goya guitar and writing music. She was still in high school when she first met her future love interest and partner in music at a club in Atherton, California; Lindsay Buckingham was singing “California Dreaming” and she joined him in the harmony – and from there it was history. Nicks and Buckingham attended university together and remained a music duo, joining several acts until joining Fleetwood Mac together in 1975. Nicks originally intended to become an English teacher but dropped out the semester before graduation to pursue her dream of music.
After the addition of Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham Fleetwood Mac released the album Rumours, which became the best-selling album of that year and is now the fifth highest selling album of all time. While remaining with the band, Nicks pursued a lucrative solo career and was equally successful with her debut album, Bella Donna.
Stevie Nicks is a major icon in so many ways, musical influence just being one area of her success. Her image and sound has been credited behind the inspiration for numerous successful artists, such as the Dixie Chicks and Taylor Swift. She continues to pursue her dream of music and remains the mystical woman behind the magical voice of Fleetwood Mac.

“I am pretty fearless, and you know why? Because I don’t handle fear very well; I’m not a good terrified person.” – Stevie Nicks
“Your graciousness is what carries you. It isn’t how old you are, how young you are, how beautiful you are, or how short your skirt is. What it is, is what comes out of your heart. If you are gracious, you have won the game.” – Stevie Nicks
“When you grow up as a girl, the world tells you things that you are supposed to be: emotional, loving, beautiful, wanted. And then when you are those things, the world tells you they are inferior: illogical, weak, vain, empty.” – Stevie Nicks
“There is always magic to be summoned at any point. I love to live in a world of magic, but not a fake world of magic… It’s only those of us who chose to accept it, that really understand it. It’s there for everyone. That’s the only thing that I feel I am able to give to people and that’s why I know that they respond to me because I try to give them only their own magic… not mine, but theirs.” – Stevie Nicks
“When you’re hurt or angry, let go by tapping into your humbleness. You want people to remember you for your grace.” – Stevie Nicks
“You can’t just be a wimp and then a year and a half or two years later decide to not be a wimp anymore. Because people will always treat you like a wimp once they have decided that’s what you are. You have to be strong and tough and intelligent and smart and kind of plant out what you’re going to say and know who you are. So that people will get that right away, because then they’re always going to be great to you. And they’re always going to treat you with respect.” – Stevie Nicks
“My life is a testament to believing that if you want something you can make it happen.” – Stevie Nicks
“If you can find a passion at a young age, somewhere between fifteen and thirty, if you can find that passion, I can pretty much guarantee you that you can be sixty five and still love that passion and still have a reason to dance out of bed and down the hall every morning.” – Stevie Nicks
“I do not walk away in the face of adversity and never have.” – Stevie Nicks
“The people that can’t sing anymore that had great voices are the people that went away for five years and then just decided to come back. And you can’t just make a comeback, comebacks are no good. You have to just keep singing. Or keep dancing.” – Stevie Nicks
