Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler is one of the most prominent rock figures of all time, and continues to pursue his love of music performing and writing after 46 years of leading the wild, tough, and talented band he formed in 1970.
Tyler ran into future bandmates Joe Perry and Tom Hamilton at a local show in New Hampshire and fell for their raw sound and rocker personas. After getting together to form Aerosmith, the band performed locally until they achieved recognition from the Top 40 for their hit “Sweet Emotion.” By 1976, they were no longer openers but were headliners for their own packed stadium shows and Tyler became a rock icon and a sex symbol in the world of music, known for his high energy stage antics and colourful, loud outfits.
Sadly, in the late ‘70s and into the early ‘80s, Steven Tyler battled a heavy drug and alcohol addiction which severely affected his relationship with his bandmates and their image in the media. After an intervention with his friends and family, Tyler checked into rehab with Perry; the two were known as the Toxic Twins because of their similar addictions and lifestyles. He battled his demons and remarkably left clean in 1986.
Following the chance in his life choices, Aerosmith made a huge comeback sporting the healthy Steven Tyler as their frontman once again. This led to four multiplatinum albums and Tyler has been since known as one of the most durable and inspirational rock icons of all time. The 1980s were extremely successful for him with several solo endeavors, including film and television appearances and writing his own book, which became a best-seller.
An accident on a world tour in 2009 put him back a few paces; he fell off the stage while performing in Illinois. During his recovery he again became addicted to drugs, but almost immediately received rehabilitation once more. Since this, Steven Tyler has remained clean and continues to be a successful musician; he released his first solo album in 2016 and still fronts Aerosmith. Despite the drawbacks in his early life as a rock star, Tyler has always managed to bounce back and move on from his dark past and continues to pursue his passion and continue to shine in his element.
